Not soon enough the elevator picked him up and deposited him back on the ground floor of his Handler’s building. Stepping out of the elevator, he found his newly washed and polished black Puma already waiting for him on the entry platform. The robotics of the parking decks were nothing but efficient and timely. Pressing his thumb to the vehicle access plate, the door opened and he sat back into the leather seat of his favorite possession. Already his system calmed and he relaxed further into the seat. Closing the door, Nathan started the engine and instantly the Puma purred to life.
Shifting into gear, he hit the accelerator, and with screeching tires and a bit of burning rubber, he expertly spun his vehicle completely around and roared for the exit. Flying towards the Security booth, the guard barely had time to lift the barrier out of his way before he would have plowed into it. Passing by he could just hear her curses as he flew through the narrow opening and careened out into the dark of the night. Roaring down the streets of the Courtyard District, which were still fairly busy, he made record time getting over to the opposite side of downtown Denver.
With other driver’s honking at him in outrage and cursing at him through half open windows, Nathan sped through the brightly lit ground lanes and ignored them all not caring if he was winning in the competition of aggressive drivers or not. The only thing he wanted was to get to his destination on the far side of the Theater District and The Inspire and get the beginning of either a pleasurable or nightmare assignment over with. Rounding the last corner, he cringed when he saw the towering Headquarters building and the medical facility with their reflective mirror appearance heralding his arrival at his destination. Speeding even faster and risking the possibility of having his car impounded, Nathan set a new downtown speed record for circling one of the largest city blocks in the UNS. He didn’t even slow down for stop lights until he was on the housing community side of The Inspire and his car was aimed directly at the gated opening of the parking garage.
Screeching to a halt before the gate, Nathan pulled his Puma up until he was next to a security monitor with a built in camera and keyboard. Rolling down his window he rested his arm on the edge of the window frame and leaned out enough so the camera could scan him. The tingle which always went through his eyes when the scanning process was performed told him the unseen electrical current was working. In his opinion, he figured it was damaging his brain, but what was one more thing to destroy what was left of his mind.
A disembodied female voice suddenly emanated from the security monitor asking, “State your business.”
Returning in the most bored tone he could, Nathan responded with, “Companion 96. I’ve been hired through the Reena Agency by BioGen for Miss…” Nathan was suddenly nonplussed. He didn’t even remember a name being given to him.
Sphinx United Excerpt:
He waited holding his breath and looked at her beautiful features. She was still pale, but already he could see improvement. Her waist length white blond hair was loose and draped around her shoulders sparkling with shine once again. Light baby blue eyes looked up at him in wonder like she had discovered something incredible. He had always gotten lost in the depths of her gorgeous sparkling eyes just as he was being drawn in now. And then his wait was over. Her fingertips made contact and he was in pure heaven. Everything for him clicked into place, his entire body singing its joy and need for her. His inner Sphinx purred in pure contentment. He just had to hold himself back just a little longer while she explored.
Eleina leaned in closer to him. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. Jacob didn’t move an inch. Just the look of pleasure on her face was enough to drive him beyond temptation. She opened her eyes and seemed mesmerized. She was so close he could feel her gentle breaths across his lips. A weak thought whispered across their link. Kiss him?
Well, what an interesting idea Jacob mused. Her look grew hotter and he felt like he was being caressed by her glance alone. He was on fire and the trail her fingers blazed made the heat sink further under his skin. Her fingertips seemed to have a mind of their own as she trailed them down his cheek and then over to his full lips. Her touch was so soft and delicate across his lips. He wanted to reach out with his tongue and lick them but he refrained. Who knew what she would do in her heightened state of awareness.
